Okay, so Beyonce and Lady Gaga are such a great combo. Beyonce's signature style of music and Lady Gaga's craziness and amazing creativity come together to create some pretty awesome songs and music videos. Beyonce's Video Phone feat. Lady Gaga is a catchy tune that makes you wanna get up and dance. At first you would think this combination of Gaga and Beyonce wouldn't really work out, but the music video proves otherwise. The song is definitely a hit! Gaga takes on a new, sexy look and leaves behind her crazy look so people see another side of her. The dancing is awesome, and surprisingly Gaga keeps up with Beyonce. For me, this proved that these two together are definitely a dynamic duo. To further prove this, the music video for Telephone was recently released. This is the ultimate display of Gaga's overflow of creativity. The video is like a mini-movie about Beyonce's and Gaga's teamwork that eventually leads to a mass killing. They work so well together and it is seen on screen. They are two artists that people never expect to work together, but gladly they went against the norm (which isn't really new for gaga) and joined forces. Something great has to come out of the collaboration of two outstanding artists! I think its really great that artists work together and share their different ideas. This allows artists to create and be a part of different kinds of music and it also broadens their music ideas and outlooks.
Just think of what Pink, Christina Auguilera, Mya, and Lil Kim did for "Moulin Rouge," and Nelly and Tim McGraw for goodness sake with "All In My Head"!
ReplyDeleteFun post. But do you think that maybe it's not the artist at all that gets to pick who they collaborate with? Sometimes the labels work behind their backs to either deny or finalize contracts for certain artists to work (or not to work) together because they know the song will either be a hit or miss.
Completely agreed. I remember thinking a while back, "A Beyoncé and Lady GaGa collaboration would be so divalicious." Like, there's no denying that Lady GaGa and Beyoncé "Sasha Fierce" Knowles are the divas of this generation. They're going to go down in history right next to the likes of Cher, Patti LaBelle, and Aretha Franklin. Telephone and Video Phone are today's version of the Barbra Streisand/Judy Garland collaboration "Get Happy/Happy Days are Here Again" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYpcFHtxm60 ).
ReplyDeleteAnd as for artists or record labels deciding who collaborates, I'm sure the label had much if not everything to do with these two Beyoncé/Lady GaGa collabs. They are probably aware that a huge section of both artists' fandoms cross over into the other artist's fandom... if that makes any sense. What I mean is that a significant amount of Beyoncé fans are also Lady GaGa fans and vice versa.
That being said, even if it had been entirely up to the labels, I'm sure the collaboration wasn't anything either artist drew issue with at all. Beyoncé had publicly announced her admiration for Lady GaGa prior to the collaboration, and Lady GaGa has always said she'll do anything for more spotlight (probably knowing these collabs might gain her that section of Beyoncé's fans who weren't already her own fans).
Isn't pairing these two together simply giving the people what they want? Thus I see it not as an "artistic" advancement, but simply a commercial one.
